Text to Lorem Ipsum: V2 Update

When you are preparing design work for review, the last thing you want is distracting copy. Stakeholders often focus on the words rather than the layout, which can draw attention away from what really matters. Placeholder text provides a practical way to keep attention where it belongs. That was the original goal behind Text to Lorem Ipsum, a lightweight Figma plugin I released to replace copy with Lorem Ipsum in seconds.

Here's what's new

1. Select multiple text, frames, and components

One of the most requested changes was the ability to handle more than one element at a time. In version 2 you can select multiple frames, components, or text nodes and process them together. Instead of running the plugin repeatedly, you can apply placeholder text to entire layouts in a single action. This makes a noticeable difference when you are working across larger projects or trying to keep momentum in a review session.

2. Save your settings

When you set a preferred length or a specific flavour of Ipsum, those preferences remain the next time you open the plugin. You're not forced to repeat the same configuration every time you run it. Helpful, especially if you rely on placeholder text frequently.

3. New flavours of ipsum

Designers often prefer to add a sense of personality to their prototypes. I've introduced new text options beyond the default Lorem Ipsum. You can choose from two web classics, Cat Ipsum, full of phrases and words related to our furry little friends. Office Ipsum, stuffed with corporate jargon - a little tongue in cheek but fun. And my very own Figma Ipsum, created specifically for this plugin packed with design-tool-related jargon. These Ipsums provide more variety and can make prototypes feel more engaging in different contexts.

4. Built for stability

The entire plugin has been rebuilt using Vue 3 and Piñia state management. Alongside this, a new replacement engine processes longer phrases with more accuracy. This prevents awkward cut-offs and makes the plugin more dependable when you are working with larger bodies of text.

But don't worry, I left the old word-by-word replacement logic tucked away in the settings menu, if you really want to use it.

Install it

You can install Text to Lorem Ipsum directly from the Figma Community and begin using it immediately. Explore the new features (coming next week), choose the ipsum flavours that best fit your work, and see how much faster your reviews feel when placeholder text works with you, rather than against you.
